Zhangqiu forging steel ball enterprise in Jinan has overcome key technologies and achieved a wear resistance level that is internationally leading.
Jinan Zhangqiu Forging Steel Ball Enterprise Breaks Through Key Technologies, Achieving International Leading Level in Wear Resistance Performance
News Report: Recently, the Jinan Haoyang Casting and Forging Co., Ltd. located in Zhangqiu District, Jinan (has released a new generation of gradient hardness forged steel balls) through the innovation of "multiple passes of forging + zone quenching" process, the service life of the products has been increased by 40% compared to traditional processes, and the wear resistance performance has exceeded the EU EN standard by 12%, filling the domestic gap in high-end grinding medium technology. This series of steel balls cover a full range of specifications from 20mm to 150mm. After being tested by the National Metal Products Quality Supervision and Inspection Center, the surface hardness reaches 60-64 HRC, the core hardness is ≥ 50 HRC, the impact toughness is ≥ 15 J/cm², and the comprehensive indicators reach the same level as those of German Disha Company.
As a "specialized, refined, distinctive and innovative" enterprise in Zhangqiu District, Huaye Heavy Industry has been deeply engaged in the forging of steel balls for 12 years, possessing 5 invention patents and 18 utility model patents. This new technology precisely controls the forging temperature within the range of 920-980℃, and in combination with the independently developed water-oil dual-medium quenching system, realizes the coordinated gradient structure of martensite on the surface of the steel balls and bainite in the core. "In the industrial test at a copper mine in Inner Mongolia, the single consumption of 80mm-sized steel balls dropped to 0.52kg/t of raw ore, which was 32% lower than that of imported products," said Mr. Wang, the technical director of the company. This process has achieved large-scale production, with an annual production capacity exceeding 30,000 tons.
Currently, the products have been supplied in large quantities to leading enterprises such as Zijin Mining and Jiangxi Copper, and have been exported to 12 countries including Australia and Peru. In the third quarter of 2025, the sales of high-end steel balls of the enterprise increased by 58% year-on-year, which led to the output value of the Zhangqiu Forging Industrial Cluster exceeding 8 billion yuan. In the future, Huayi Heavy Industry plans to invest 200 million yuan to build an intelligent forging workshop, with the goal of increasing the market share in the high-end market to 35% by 2026.
