Jinan Haoyang casting and forging B2 material forging steel ball-measurement of impact resistance life increased by 37
Introduction
[China - Jinan, May 9, 2025] Jinan Haoyang Casting & Forging Co., Ltd. recently released a third-party test report on B2 material forged steel balls. Verified by the National Material Testing Center (NTC), the product's “average wear rate is 24% lower than conventional forged balls” and impact fatigue life is 37% higher under iron ore grinding conditions, providing a more cost-effective grinding media solution for heavy-duty industries such as mining and cement.
Technology Upgrade Highlights
1. Material formulation optimization
- Composition ratio:
- Chromium (Cr) content: 0.8%-1.2% (to enhance surface hardness)
- Molybdenum (Mo) content: 0.3%-0.5% (to enhance core toughness)
- Testing results:
✅ Surface hardness HRC 62-64 (National standard HRC 58-62)
✅ Impact toughness ≥15 J/cm² (common forged ball ≤12 J/cm²)
2. Process innovation
- Stepped heat treatment:
Adopting “quenching + double tempering” process to eliminate internal stress and stabilize the crushing rate below 0.5%.
- Intelligent temperature control system:
Forging temperature error ≤ ± 10 ℃, to ensure that the grain size up to ASTM 10 level (the industry generally 8-9 level).
Performance Advantage Empirical Evidence:
Contrasting Dimensions | Hao Yang B2 Forged Balls | Industry Average |
Wear Rate (Iron Ore) | 1.2kg/ton ore | 1.58kg/ton ore
|
Continuous Operating Hours | 8,000 hours | 5,800 hours |
Cost per ton (3 years) | $3.8/ton | $4.5/ton |
Customer Applications
San Cristóbal Copper Mine, Chile
- Demand pain point: high sulfur ore leads to a monthly loss of steel balls of 4.3 tons per 10,000 tons of ore.
- Solution: Adopt Haoyang B2 forging ball + anti-corrosion coating process.
- Results:
✅ Reduced ball consumption to 2.7 tons per ton of ore, saving $520,000 per year.
✅ Equipment downtime and maintenance interval extended to 32 days (originally 21 days)
Quality assurance system
- Testing equipment:
- German OBLF direct reading spectrometer (composition analysis accuracy ± 0.01%)
- U.S. CETR friction and wear testing machine (simulated working conditions detection)
Future Plans
In 2025, we will launch the “B2+ Corrosion Resistant Series”, which is developed for acidic mining environments, and has already entered the field testing phase in a gold mine in South Africa.
